Adkins upbeat despite defeat

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins had few complaints after seeing his men dumped out of the Carling Cup by Manchester City.Despite Jonathan Forte's goal briefly pulling the Iron level, a full-strength City side featuring the likes of Shay Given and Carlos Tevez ran out 5-1 winners."City have made it clear they want to win this tournament by the strength of the side they put out," Adkins said."If they had turned out a weakened side they could have come unstuck. We played well and created a lot of chances."But the quality of City shone through in the second half, the work-rate was phenomenal and a lesson to our lads."We were playing against people who are close to the best in the world and the scoreline was what most people expected."
