The Trotters were lively at times, but were generous at the back and found themselves two down inside the opening 26 minutes.Salomon Kalou and Florent Malouda put the Blues in control with second-half efforts from Deco and Didier Drogba completing the scoring.Megson was keen for his charges to press and outmuscle their opponents, but felt they did the opposite."That's as bad as a performance as you'll see," Megson told Sky Sports News after the full-time whistle."If you don't compete against Chelsea and some of the other big clubs in this Premier League you're going to have huge problems."I know this was a Carling Cup tie, but we didn't make it a cup tie. We needed to make it about tempo and strength and we made it about passing and technique."No positivesMegson was happy with one or two individual display but refused to take any positives from the match following their cup exit."There were one or two that did okay, but nowhere near as well as they can do," he continued."When you're in a cup tie it's purely, simply about getting through to the next round so therefore you can't really say there were positives."Megson did reserve praise for Bolton's vocal travelling support and hopes the fans are again behind the team for the visit of Chelsea this weekend."Our support was fantastic. 2,000 people have come down on a Wednesday night and they've out-sang the home crowd."We need that at our place, but we also need to put on a performance that gives us an opportunity to win."
