Stanley get an extra week to pay up

HM Revenue and Customs went to the High Court seeking an order to wind up the club over the unpaid tax bill.But officials from the Lancashire League Two club promised the debt would be paid within a week.In the companies court on Wednesday, Mr Registrar Simmonds adjourned the hearing to give the club time to pay up."Having regard to the number of adjournments I will give you seven days - that is November 4 - and mark it absolutely final. The petition debt must be paid in full," Simmonds told the court.Stanley claimed on Tuesday that £200,000 pounds of the debt had been repaid, but the club's lawyer indicated just £96,000 had been sent to HMRC.The present club was formed in 1968 and regained league status when they were promoted as champions of the Football Conference in 2006.Accrington had been without a football team following the collapse of the original Accrington Stanley in 1966.If the club fails to meet next week's deadline they will face closure for the second time in its history.
