Latics trio back in action

Rene Steer, Deane Smalley and Andy Holdsworth made welcome returns from injury as Oldham reserves defeated an experienced Bolton side 2-1 in the Manchester Senior Cup.Steer managed 70 minutes despite a scare late in the first half when he sustained a cut to his mouth, sparking fears he may have suffered more damage to his recently-healed fractured jaw.Smalley got 23 minutes under his belt following a back injury and had a hand in setting up the winning goal for Ryan Brooke 11 minutes from time.Holdsworth played the first half after six weeks out with tendinitis in his leg.Chris Taylor had also been expected to feature but it was decided not to push the midfielder after he played for 20 minutes at Brighton at the weekend.Nick Blackman was Latics' other scorer with a 37th-minute strike.
