Gordon Strachan backed by Keith Lamb to get Middlesbrough back into Premier League

Strachan wasted no time in getting down to work with Boro as he met his new players and coaching staff at the club's Rockliffe Park training ground before supervising a training session. The former Celtic manager, brought in to replace the sacked Gareth Southgate, began the task of masterminding a promotion campaign immediately as he prepared for his first game in charge when Paul Sturrock's Plymouth head to the Riverside on Saturday. Boro chief executive Keith Lamb has predicted that Strachan will invigorate the club who are currently fourth in the Championship. "We are delighted that Gordon has agreed to join us as our new manager," said Lamb, who met the new manager along with the club's coaching staff on Sunday. "Gordon has a wealth of experience as a player and as a manager. The experience will be of great help to the club, particularly to our younger players. "For a club like ours, with a wealth of talented young footballers, whose careers are ahead of them, Gordon will be invaluable in ensuring they get every last ounce out of their potential. "That can only be a good thing for the players themselves and for Middlesbrough Football Club." Lamb was due to accompany Strachan at a press conference on Monday afternoon at the Riverside as the club publicly unveiled their new manager. Lamb continued: "By his own admission, Gordon is predominantly a coach who is also a manager, rather than a manager who also coaches. He is very much a tracksuit manager in that the training ground is where he is most comfortable. "He is a character and I think everybody, from the chairman (Steve Gibson) down over, will enjoy working with him. Certainly I doubt there'll be many dull days at the football club."
