Cherries: Molesley's year to remember

CROWD pleaser Mark Molesley completed his impressive first year at Cherries and then described playing in front of the Dean Court faithful as the highlight of my career. In his first 12 months at the club, Molesleys all-action midfield displays have won him plenty of admirers among the Cherries support. He is set to play through the pain of a foot injury in this afternoons League Two clash against Grimsby Town at Dean Court (3pm), when he will be hoping to continue enhancing his reputation. The fans have been absolutely fantastic, said the likeable Londoner, reflecting on his time at Cherries so far. Its beyond anything I couldve hoped for and the highlight of my career is playing in front of the Bournemouth fans at home. These are things I will treasure for the rest of my life. Molesley is the latest in a long line of players Cherries have recruited from non-league, and he sees following in the footsteps of the likes of Wade Elliott, John Bailey and Shaun Teale as a good incentive. Seeing players like that coming from the same sort of roots as me they are good role models to follow, he said. They are definitely people to aspire to be like. Theyve gone on to great things. Bournemouth seems like a great breeding ground and its a great place to be. Despite being 28, Molesley believes there is room for improvement and learning in his game, something which will be music to the ears of Cherries fans. He said: All were trying to do here is striving to improve, both on a personal level and collectively as a team. I suppose people look at my age and think, maybe, I should be peaking and this might be my best time. But because I was late to the (professional) game Im still learning and still improving. I dont think Im the finished article by any stretch of the imagination and Ive still got so much more to learn. Im learning a lot every day. Molesley, who is playing despite the fact his injured left foot could soon require surgery, initially joined Cherries on loan from Grays Athletic last October. Manager Eddie Howe handed him a permanent deal in January, before securing the midfielder on a new two-year contract during the summer.
