Wenger has money to spend

// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has money to spend at Emirates Stadium, but he is not expected to lavishly spend £100million on one player. The Gunners boss has been criticised in some quarters for favouring a policy based on young, promising talent, rather than splashing out on star names. It has been suggested that perhaps purse strings are tight in North London, but chairman Peter Hill-Wood insists that is not the case.Wenger has been informed that there is cash available, but the Frenchman has told the Arsenal board that there is not a player he would be willing to pay a high fee for.Hill-Wood said in the Daily Star ahead of Sunday's trip to West Ham: "We have told him there is quite a lot of money he could spend."He says he realises that but he hasn't actually found any player he thinks can improve the squad.Faith"I remember a couple of years ago (director) Danny Fiszman saying, 'if we gave you £100m, what would you do with it?'. He said, 'quite frankly, I would give it back'."Hill-Wood also maintains faith that Wenger, who recently notched a record 13 years in charge of the Gunners, will stay at Arsenal, despite repeated links with Real Madrid. He added: "As I see it, he has the perfect job. Forgetting that he does get well paid, he gets the full support of the board - who all like him - and we never interfere."We understand each other very well but if he wants to go to Real Madrid, I am sure he will ring up and say, 'I want to go to Real Madrid'."And I will say, 'Arsene are you sure you are not being a bloody fool?'."If in two years (when his contract runs out), he decides he wants to stay, I would respect that."
