Blues sweep past Atletico

Chelsea took a huge step towards the knockout stages of the Champions League by emphatically defeating Atletico Madrid 4-0 at Stamford Bridge, courtesy of Salomon Kalou's double and Frank Lampard's strike. With Ricardo Carvalho dropped following his defensive errors at Aston Villa last weekend, Carlo Ancelotti's men bounced back and went ahead through Kalou just before the interval. They maintained their 100% record in Group D after Kalou extended their lead just after the break and Lampard added another from long range. An own goal in stoppage-time, from Luis Perea, accounted for the fourth.
