Moyes blasts cup officials

David Moyes has slammed Carling Cup organisers for showing his Everton side a 'lack of respect'. The Toffees have reached the fourth round of the knockout competition, where they are set to come up against top flight rivals Tottenham. That clash has been set for next Tuesday, despite Everton being involved in European and domestic action before then. Moyes' men face Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday and Bolton in the Premier League on Sunday. The Scottish coach therefore feels that his team should have been given an extra day in which to recuperate before being forced back into competitive action. He has blasted the decision to allow Arsenal and Liverpool to play on the Wednesday night, in order for the game to be televised, and feels the Carling Cup is undermining its own standing within the game with their refusal to adopt a sensible approach to their scheduling. "My philosophy has always been to try and put our best teams in whatever competition we enter, but I find the lack of respect we have been shown by the Carling Cup organisers really disappointing," said Moyes. "We have been asked to play Tottenham at White Hart Lane on a Tuesday night after playing the previous Thursday and Sunday at Benfica and Bolton. "I am aware that other clubs will have a similar scenario but they haven't got games on Thursday and again on the Sunday. "It could have been quite easily been moved but for the decision to screen Arsenal v Liverpool on the Wednesday." He added: "That's the support you get for trying to put out your strongest teams in as many competitions as possible. "If I was Carling, I would question the people running the competition."
