Blackburn star David Dunn is braced for ‘Dingles’ ding dong in Burnley derby

Jibe: David Dunn has risked the ire of Burnley fans Blackburn vice-captain David Dunn has risked a backlash from Burnley fans by branding them 'Dingles' after the television family from hell.Although Rovers fans commonly use the insult for their near-neighbours, it is the first time a player has come out with the derogatory term, with the timing particularly sensitive ahead of the first top-flight derby between the teams since 1966 today. The Dingles are a notorious family in TV soap Emmerdale known for being noisy, stupid and unclean. Dunn, who hails from Great Harwood between the two towns and is aware of the simmering tension between the fans, meant his comment as a good-natured jibe but can expect to receive a hostile reception when the sides walk out at Turf Moor. He said: 'I grew up in a town stuck in the middle between Blackburn and Burnley. The majority of people probably supported Blackburn but you got the odd Dingle knocking about as well. 'When we last played them in the league in 2001, I tried to tell the Blackburn lads what the game meant. Stuck in the middle: Dunn grew up in a town between the two rivals'They weren't having any of it because some of them had played in Merseyside and Old Firm derbies. I tried to warn them the atmosphere would be tense and as soon as we got to the ground they looked at me and said: 'Bloody Hell, you weren't wrong'.' The two clubs are based just 16 miles apart along the M65 but have not played each other since 2005 when Blackburn won an FA Cup third-round replay 2-1. Burnley's last win against Rovers came 30 years ago. Dunn played in the last league derby which Rovers won 5-0. But he is expecting a far tougher game today with Owen Coyle's newly promoted Burnley unbeaten at home this season. 'That was a great day but not for one moment do I think we will beat them 5-0 again,' he said. 'It's more likely to be a really tough game.' Blackburn's players can't afford to lose to Burnley, as Kenyon puts boot inBlackburn Rovers v Burnley: Calm before the East Lancashire stormBURNLEY FC
