Defoe - Rest could be good

// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Jermain Defoe is taking a philosophical approach to a hand injury which has ruled him out of action. The Tottenham striker has been in blistering form this season for both club and country. He has six goals in nine games for Spurs, while he has also found the target three times in as many outings for England. That form would have made Defoe a strong contender for a starting berth in Fabio Capello's side for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Belarus. He admits he would have preferred to have been involved in international action over the course of the next week, rather than stuck on the training ground, but feels a rest could prove beneficial in the long run."I've always said any disappointment is a blessing but since pre-season I've felt sharp and things have gone my way both at club level and international level, so I can't really complain," Defoe told Spurs' official website."I can have a rest, get myself focused and make sure that in my next game for the club I'm really firing again."ProtectionDefoe dislocated two fingers and suffered a fracture in his left hand during Tottenham's 5-0 mauling of Burnley on 26th September. He is able to train as usual, but has been advised to steer well clear of physical contact for the time being."I can train, I can run and that's what I've been doing at Spurs in the last few days," he said."I've just got to be careful with contact. I thought it was only a dislocation but I've got a fracture in there as well."It's only normal to try and protect is so if I was to play, perhaps I wouldn't go into the game 100 per cent. It's unfortunate but I'll rest the fingers and hopefully get them right for the Portsmouth game (on 17th October)."
