Scunthorpe United plan to hold a benefit match to pay tribute to former player Cliff Byrne, who was released on Wednesday. He was one of 10 out-of-contract players who left as manager Alan Knill plans to overhaul his squad. Had he stayed a further 12 months he would have been entitled to a testimonial, but the club have offered him a match. "The club were keen to show their appreciation to the Irishman who's commitment and desire to the Iron has never been questioned and have offered him a benefit match at Glanford Park," said a statement from the club.
