Marlon Harewood hoping to recapture form at Newcastle

The former Nottingham Forest and West Ham player has started a three-month loan spell at St James' Park and will be among the substitutes when Newcastle face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday. "I can't wait to get my career back on track," Harewood, 30, said after being handed the Championship club's number 10 shirt. "I'm delighted to sign for a club like Newcastle United. I'm fit and raring to go and really believe I am at one of the biggest clubs there is. "This for me is a great challenge and now I just want to play my part. I want to help the team and make sure we maintain the good start." It is a move Harewood hopes will revive a career that has stalled badly at Villa Park having started just two games in two years for Martin O'Neill team since a £4million move from Upton Park. "I just can't wait for my debut," Harewood continued. "Whether it comes at Ipswich or in front of what I hope will be a packed house at St James's Park. "That is one of the greatest things about signing here. The potential to play in front of 52,000 fans is a very special one and making my debut is just something that I can't wait to happen." Meanwhile, Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt believes former Manchester United team-mate Roy Keane, now managing Ipswich, should be given plenty of time to invigorate struggling Ipswich's fortunes. "It's a tough division - you need time to bed in and get used to it," Butt said. "At Ipswich they have spent a lot of money and Roy will need time. It takes time - that's a fact. "Here at Newcastle we have fitted straight in more or less. They are a good bunch of lads and we've shown a great team spirit. With the ability we have got in our squad we should be able to do well. "I thought it would have been more of a culture shock than this. I thought we would have to find our way around the league and see what it was all about first. "At home we have been head and shoulders above everybody we have played, apart from Leicester in the second half. "With our full squad we can still take this league by storm hopefully, if we can pick up a few more wins and get some luck." Newcastle, who are currently second-top of the Championship, and Ipswich, second-bottom of the table, have been given permission by the Football League authorities to wear special shirts in memory of the late Sir Bobby Robson who managed both clubs.
