Gordon Taylor on PFA Players' Player of the Year nominee: Joe Hart

"I recall when he went to Birmingham on loan. I rang him and told him to keep faith because he had been a quality player in the lower divisions with Shrewsbury, getting into the PFA team. I didn't want him to feel it was a setback and told him to use the experience. He has maintained his faith in his ability and his record since then has been excellent, both for England and Man City, with his clean sheets and his confidence. I think he has got to be one of the finest goalkeepers around now and I hope he can keep that progress going because he has got all the ability. The reputation of England goalkeepers, from when we used to get them off the conveyor belt - it is a bit more difficult to get them through now. I know a lot is depending on him for Man City and England but it has been a delight to see him come through and do so well. "The talk in football was always about the spine of your team - your keeper, your central defenders and striker. It starts with your keeper, otherwise you are going to struggle. It gives confidence to your defence as well. Joe Hart has exhibited all the necessary skills and requirements of a top keeper. I am not a bit surprised he is in there amongst the contenders."
