Newport County v York City

York City are expected to be without skipper Chris Smith when facing FA Trophy final opponents Newport County at Spytty Park on Tuesday evening. The former Mansfield Town and Tamworth defender is suffering from a virus and was set to be replaced by either Daniel Parslow or Jamal Fyfield.“Chris Smith hasn’t travelled because of illness," York boss Gary Mills confirmed to The Press.“We’re leaving it open to see if he can join up with us later today but that’s not likely.“We will be disappointed to lose Chris because he has been a colossus over the last ten games or so but we have cover in the centre-back area." He added: "There’s Jamal Fyfield, Ben Gibson and Dan Parslow, while Dave McGurk has also travelled with us so we’ve got options.” Defender Ismail Yakubu (hamstring) and striker Jay Harris (broken nose) are still unavailable for Newport, who claimed a first league win in six games against Gateshead at the weekend. Midfielder Sam Foley remains their main danger-man with eleven goals already this season, while also currently topping their scoring charts following the departure of twelve-goal former Manchester United trainee Danny Rose to leaders Fleetwood Town in January.Tonight's fixture goes ahead after stadium owners Newport Council hastily erected a temporary fourth floodlight at the ground, and despite continuing drainage problems also leaving a difficult playing surface.
