The Tractor Boys have also won five of their last six home matches with the one blip coming in their most recent game at Portman Road- a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on Tuesday. Last weekend saw the Championship’s second and third leakiest defences going head to head when Barnsley hosted Peterborough. This weekend it’s the leakiest against the third leakiest with Ipswich’s 68 goals conceded the worst in the division and Barnsley just six goals behind. Clean sheets are hard to come by for both sides- Ipswich have just four from their last 19 matches with The Reds even worse having managed just two in 23. Defeat for Ipswich would be their 1000th in league action. When these two sides met earlier in the season it was a cracker in front of the SKY cameras with Barnsley seeing their four match winning run end in spectacular style. They raced into a 2-0 half time lead before seeing Paul Jewell’s side storm back to win 5-3. That was only Ipswich’s second win in their last six trips to Oakwell but they have a pretty formidable home record over Barnsley. The Reds secured an impressive 3-1 success there last season but it was only their third win at Portman Road in the 18 trips they have made. Barnsley who halted a seven match winless run and four game goal-less streak with victory over the Posh six days ago now look to halt a six match losing streak away from home, in which they have failed to score in five of them. On This Day Barnsley have a pretty mixed record on the 31st March, winning 10 and losing 11, but they have been defeated on each of the last three- the most recent a 2-1 home loss to Derby in 2007. Their last 31st March victory was 2-1 at Reading in 1997. Ipswich are also pretty inconsistent on this date, winning eight and losing seven, but they did win their most recent- 3-0 against Plymouth in 2007. These two teams have met once before on the 31st March and it was at Portman Road. Back in 1992 Ipswich secured a 2-0 triumph in the Barclays Second Division. That year Ipswich won the division and were promoted into the first ever FA Carling Premiership season, whilst Barnsley finished 16th.
