Real Madrid vs Barcelona : The title race

Barcelona vs Madrid title raceFor the past few years it is clear that Real Madrid and Barcelona have been dominating the Spanish first division, and while it’s gotten to an almost boring point, especially if you don’t support any of the 2, for them it has become a yearly battle where pride and egos are at stake, and – even though it sounds really harsh, where the loser has to endure taunts, and humiliation.Real Madrid have enjoyed a 10 point gap between them and their Catalonian counterparts ever since Barcelona lost to Osasuna little more than a month ago. Everyone thought it was impossible for Madrid to drop so many points; La Liga in most people’s eyes was sentenced… But in just a week, Madrid drew with both Malaga and Villarreal, closing the gap to just 6 points. There are 9 games still to be played, including “El Clásico” at the Camp Nou, which could prove to be decisive. If we look at the calendar Barcelona still have to play Athletic, Getafe, Malaga, Espanyol at home and Zaragoza, Levante, Rayo and Betis away. Whereas Real Madrid will host Valencia, Sporting, Sevilla, Mallorca and will be playing Osasuna, Atletico, Athletic Bilbao and Granada away. Real Madrid have it harder than Barcelona as they have to play teams like Athletic or Osasuna away.Over the past few years we have seen how Madrid have been out shone by Barcelona in the 2009/10 season Madrid ended up with a record breaking 96 points, but Barcelona ended with an even more impressive 99 points, the year before that Catalans won the League with 9 points difference and last season Barcelona finished first once again and with 8 points more than their rivals.Whether Madrid keep the top spot until the end, or if Barcelona manage to whisk it away from them no one can really say, but the fight for La Liga is still very much on.
