Brown hopeful over Geovanni deal

Hull manager Phil Brown is hopeful Brazilian star Geovanni will soon commit to a new contract.Brown has been impressed with the performances of the 29-year-old despite Hull`s disappointing start to the season.Geovanni joined Hull last season on a two-year deal and scored eight goals in the club`s first Barclays Premier League campaign.Brown said: "The lad`s heart and soul are in the club at the moment and hopefully, fingers crossed, we are very close to him putting pen to paper."Brown sees Geovanni as one of his chief attacking threats but accepts poor team displays such as in Saturday`s 1-0 loss to Birmingham do not allow him chance to shine. He added: "Instead of us maintaining possession and getting the ball out to Geovanni so he can create for us, he has had to do a defensive role for us, which disappoints me - but that is purely and simply down to giving the ball away."
