Shawcross reveals knee concern

// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross has revealed he is currently on a limited training schedule as he is suffering from tendinitis in his knees. The centre-half is training just once a week in bid to avoid further injury and maintain his ability to perform for the Potters on matchdays.Shawcross has been instrumental in Stoke's impressive early season form but he has been restricted to gym work and physiotherapy as opposed to the usual training regimes.Shawcross told The Sentinel: "I have been pleased with the way things have gone for me."I have been having a few injections in my knees and have only really trained on a Friday, so it has been really tough."But I keep fit during the week and have done all right so far, so I hope that continues."I am fine for the games and the manager has been very understanding with me. I want to train more, but my knees won't let me at the moment."It is just a bit of tendinitis. Most players get it and Dave Watson, our physio, has been working very hard with me."ToughShawcross will be aiming to hold onto his place as Stoke travel to Bolton on Saturday in a fixture which threatened to derail his Premier League career last season. The Trotters ran out 3-1 victors on the opening day of last season with the 21-year-old made a scapegoat for the defeat, losing his place in the side."It was a tough game there last season and a baptism of fire," said Shawcross."I made a couple of mistakes and I think they were highlighted because it was the first game of the season."But in most teams in the Premier League, if you have a bad game, you are likely to be replaced."It took me a while to get back in the team, but when I returned, I stayed there. I know there's a lot of competition here and that's why I have to keep performing."The former Manchester United defender has attracted interest from Everton and Liverpool in recent months and has also been tipped with an outside chance of making Fabio Capello's England squad. However, the youngster is refusing to let the hype go to his head, adding: "If you are playing well and you are English, then sometimes you get linked to a call up."I am hoping that one day it will happen, but I don't really think about it."
