Gardner will not give up

// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Craig Gardner has vowed to keep on fighting as he looks to become a first-team regular at Aston Villa. The England Under 21 international was linked with a move away from Villa Park during the transfer window, with Wolves and Birmingham touted as possible destinations. However, deadline day has now passed and the midfielder remains part of Martin O'Neill's squad.Gardner accepts that he faces stiff competition for places in the heart of Villa's side, but insists he will be doing all he can to force his way into contention."This is a massive season for me. I'm 22 now and I want to be involved in more games," he said."Last season I played in quite a few of the cup games but not as many Premier League matches as I would have liked."There is a lot of competition for places. My preferred position is central midfield and we have Stiliyan Petrov, Fabian Delph, Steve Sidwell and Nigel Reo-Coker."It is very hard to compete against players like that but I'm not the kind to roll over. I intend to keep fighting for a place. We will just have to see what happens."All I can do is keep working hard, try and impress the manager and hope I get picked. But it is good to be part of such a great set-up."
