Davies seeks ruthless streak

// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Kevin Davies admits Bolton need to toughen up if they are to bring about a reversal in fortune this term. The Trotters have endured a dismal start to the 2009/10 campaign, going pointless through their first three fixtures. While there is still plenty of time in which to stage a recovery, confidence is a fragile thing and could be shattered were the poor run of form to continue.Club captain Davies is all too aware of that fact and has called on his team-mates to raise their game in forthcoming contests."Everyone is frustrated that we are not winning games but we have to stick together as a squad," the experienced striker told the Bolton News."We're honest lads and maybe at times we can be a little bit too honest and too nice. "I think the manager (Gary Megson) wants us to be a bit more ruthless and that's the way it's got to be. He's right, we are a nice bunch but sometimes we have got to be a bit harder." PanicNext up for Bolton is a trip to Fratton Park to take on Portsmouth, the only other side in the Premier League yet to get off the mark. Both sides will be desperate to get their seasons up and running, but Davies thinks it is too early to treat the game as a must-win encounter."I hope we're not looking at it as if it was a relegation battle," he said. "It's still early days so we don't have to start hitting the panic buttons just yet."
