Tear gas causes Genoa-Milan suspension

Friday's Serie A match between Genoa and AC Milan was briefly suspended after a quarter of an hour as tear gas left people gasping for breath. The referee chose to halt the game and most Genoa players returned to the dressing rooms, although Milan's players remained on the pitch. People in the stands were seen wiping their eyes and covering their mouths and noses with scarves. Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia also appeared to be struggling with the effects of the smoke. The gas was believed to have been fired by police outside the ground in a bid to quell some crowd trouble. The game, which was goalless when the match was suspended, resumed after about 10 minutes.
