Arismendi keen to follow Poyet`s lead

Uruguayan Diego Arismendi wants to try and make the same impact on the Barclays Premier League as the one enjoyed by former Chelsea and Tottenham star Gus Poyet. The 21-year-old is delighted to have arrived in the top flight with Stoke and is determined to show what he can do. "It's a dream come true to come and play in the Premier League," said Arismendi. "In my opinion it is the best league in the world and having watched it on television for many years, I had long held the ambition of coming to play here one day. "I was impressed with the welcome that I received from the club and I also like the ambitious plans that the manager has for the club in the long term." The 6ft 2in midfielder played more than 50 times for Club Nacional where he helped the side to the Primera Division title last season. He made his debut for Uruguay in a friendly against Norway in May last year and now wants to try an emulate the success enjoyed by Poyet in England. Poyet played almost 200 games in the Premier League for Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, scoring over 50 goals and Arismendi added: "Gus Poyet was always a player I admired as a kid because of the success he enjoyed in English football and I would love to be able to emulate him."
