Latics fail in fresh Bodde bid

Swansea have rejected an improved offer from Wigan for midfielder Ferrie Bodde. The Dutchman's future has been the subject of fierce speculation for much of the summer, with a number of Premier League clubs interested in securing his services. Swansea have had to turn down several bids for Bodde but Wigan have kept up their pursuit and were hopeful of bringing him in on deadline day. They tabled a late offer but Swans chairman Huw Jenkins maintains that he was still not tempted to do business. "The terms of the payment have improved but our stance on Ferrie remains the same and the offer has been rejected," Jenkins told the club's official website. "Ferrie is edging closer to full fitness and we are all looking forward to seeing him pull on a Swansea shirt again and bolstering Paulo Sousa's squad." Whitbread Meanwhile, Swansea will not look to push through a deal for Millwall defender Zak Whitbread until January. Jenkins added: "We agreed a deal for Zak with Millwall but because he has just had a hip operation, the player felt it was better if he remained at the club until he was fully fit again. "We will review the situation again in January."
