Tottenham's Luka Modric suffers broken leg

Modric is expected to be absent for two months after suffering the injury in a clash with Birmingham's Lee Bowyer. The Croatia international was substituted in the 49th minute of the 2-1 victory and underwent tests which confirmed the break.Croatia welcome back Arsenals Eduardo after long injury lay-offGame Zone: Burnley v Tottenham HotspurA spokesman for Spurs said: 'Luka does not require surgery and simply requires the wearing of an aircast protective boot. It is anticipated he will be back in training after six weeks.'And a statement on Spurs' website read: "X-rays have determined that Luka Modric sustained a fracture to his right fibula during Saturday's victory over Birmingham City at White Hart Lane." It is a blow for Harry Redknapp, the Spurs manager, who is missing several key players including Heurelho Gomes, Michael Dawson, Gareth Bale, Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Jermaine Jenas. Modric has been one of the stars of Tottenham's 100 per cent start to the season, which has put them second in the table behind Chelsea after four games. After the forthcoming international break, Spurs face a home game against champions Manchester United and a trip to Chelsea, and Modric's injury could force Redknapp back into the transfer market before Sept 1. Last week, Modric had hinted he would be willing to sign fresh terms, and Redknapp said: "If I was the chairman I would certainly be looking to tie him up as soon as we can because he is an amazing footballer."
