Bentley handed driving ban

Tottenham midfielder David Bentley has been banned from driving for a year after admitting drinking and driving. Bentley pleaded guilty during the hearing at St Albans Magistrates' Court to drink-driving on 13th August in Hertfordshire. The 24-year-old crashed his Porsche into a lamp post after drinking four pints of lager and two spirits at a gig in London. Bentley issued an apology on the Tottenham website after the incident and the club are believed to have disciplined him. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp speaking about Bentley's charge felt he was lucky at getting a one-year ban and has vowed to fine the player. "Sounds like he's been very lucky. He's very lucky to get away with only a year for drink driving," said Redknapp. On the severity of the fine Redknapp added: "Peanuts, isn't it? In terms of what the players earn. He's been lucky. "What he has to do now is learn his lesson from that and make sure he never does that again because he has been let off very lightly in my opinion." Redknapp insisted the club would also hit Bentley in the pocket, likely to be to the tune of around £100,000. "We'll fine him the maximum we can fine him," said Redknapp.
