Dimitar Berbatov rules out Bulgaria return
All dressed up with nowhere to go: United striker Dimitar Berbatov did not get a game in RomaniaDimitar Berbatov has refused to come out of international retirement despite hundreds of Bulgaria supporters hijacking Manchester United's Champions League night. Berbatov stopped playing for his country in May 2010 but supporters from his homeland travelled to Romania where he was on Champions League duty with United on Tuesday night. They hoped the striker, who scored 48 goals in 79 games for his country, would have a change of heart after watching Bulgaria score just three goals in eight games and finishing bottom of their Euro 2012 qualifying group. But after warming the bench for the duration of United's 2-0 win over Otelul Galati, Berbatov was standing his ground. He said: 'I didn't expect such a reaction. I can't play for the national team if I'm not playing for my club. 'I would like to thank the fans, it was very pleasant. My team-mates wondered what was happening and I had to explain them (about the noise from the stands).' Benchmark: Berbatov has not been starting for Manchester United Berbatov is behind Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in the pecking order at Old Trafford and is also vying with Danny Welbeck and Michael Owen. The 30-year-old has started just one Premier League match this season and added: 'I want to get more chances because I know I can help the team.
