Davis warns against complacency

Steven Davis insists Rangers cannot afford to let their standards drop as they aim to build on their impressive lead at the summit of the SPL. The Scottish champions head into tomorrow's clash with St Mirren at Ibrox 10 points clear of Celtic and nine points ahead of second-placed Motherwell. But the midfielder believes the recent Scottish Communities League Cup exit to Falkirk is a stark reminder of what can happen if Rangers fail to hit top form.Davis said: "If you get caught up in the fact that you've got the lead and take your eye off the ball, that's when you get caught out."That's something the players who have been here over the course will be telling the new boys."We have to keep giving 100% in games. If we're not right, we will get caught out like what happened at Falkirk. We need to be on our game at all times."Rangers are aiming for their 10th consecutive SPL win against Saints. But Davis added: "We haven't thought about it at all. We just want to continue the form that we have shown."We've got a few tough games coming up this month, starting with St Mirren at home."Hopefully we can keep progressing and building as a team as we have been doing. Winning games breeds confidence and I think there is still a lot more to come from this team."He added: "We are expecting a difficult game because St Mirren have played some good stuff this season."I'm sure they have done their work on us and they will be well up for the game, as is every team who comes to Ibrox."It's important that we get back to winning ways after the international break and get the three points on board."Davis has been named Clydesdale Bank Premier League player of the month for September, with boss Ally McCoist picking up the manager's award.Davis said: "The team has had a really good month and it's nice to be recognised individually as well."The team has done well and it's been a really good effort from everybody."
