THE LIST: Sportsmail's top 50 football signings of the summer - Nos 50-41

The transfer window will slam shut on September 1 to mark the end of a summer of madness. Clubs across Europe have been frantically reinforcing their squads as they prepare for another tough season. There have been several blockbuster signings. Real Madrid have undoubtedly led the way by splashing out around £170millon on Kaka, Karim Benzema and, of course, Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo. Elsewhere, Manchester City have emerged as the new hot destination as Mark Hughes spends his club's new riches. But it is not just the expensive acquisitions that stand out. Michael Owen is one of a number of players to switch clubs on a Bosman free transfer. As the days count down to the end of the latest spell of spending, Sportsmail has put together the top 50 signings of the summer by European clubs. If you disagree with our choices, let us know your star buy by leaving your comments. 50 Marko Arnautovic (Twente to Inter Milan, £12m) Inter boss Jose Mourinho claims he has never seen the Austrian striker play but that didn't stop the Italians splashing out on a player Twente boss Steve McClaren fought tooth and nail to keep. 49 Kyle Naughton (Sheffield United to Tottenham, £8m joint deal) A raw talent but one that may emerge as a huge player for Tottenham and England. Harry Redknapp has high hopes for the roaming right-back despite less than 50 appearances for United. 48 Ramires (Cruzeiro to Benfica, £6.5m) Another Brazilian prospect to take his first steps into European football in Portugal. The Brazil international's huge stamina will be a real asset to Benfica this season. 47 Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (Zenit St Petersburg to Bayern Munich, £12m) A UEFA Cup winner with Zenit St Petersburg, Tymoshchuk has finally been handed his chance at a big European club at the age of 30. An intelligent addition to Bayern's midfield. 46 Joe Hart (Manchester City to Birmingham City, loan) Sidelined at big-spending Manchester City by Shay Given's January arrival, Hart has a point to prove at Birmingham. A massive year with the World Cup on the horizon. 45 Mario Gomez (Stuttgart to Bayern Munich, £25m) Nicknamed Mr Zuverlassig (Mr Reliable), Gomez is just that after averaging a goal every other game for Stuggart. Is already off the mark for Bayern. 44 Radamel Falcao (River Plate to Porto, £3.5m) Falcao is dynamic, full of pace and can finish with both feet. At 23, he has huge potential and he has wasted no time after scoring on his debut for the Portguese side. 43 Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough to Aston Villa, £12m) Has great pace on the left wing and will create plenty of opportunities for Aston Villa this season. Will have to wait for his debut as a foot injury will keep him out until December. 42 Marco Motta (Udinese to Roma, £6m) Speedy right-back who Roma decided to sign on a permanent basis this summer. He's a top-class defender who has captained the Italy Under-21s and represented his country at the Beijing Olympics. 41 Fabian Delph (Leeds to Aston Villa, £8m) Several Premier League clubs were chasing the teenager but it was Villa who won the race. Delph has scored some amazing goals and has shown maturity beyond his years. Voted PFA Young Player in the Football League.
