Goals in either half from Miguel Llera and Scott Wagstaff gave Charlton a comfortable victory and Hutchings slammed the performance from his players.
He said: "We looked sluggish. We didn't come out of the blocks as well as we have in the past. They scored a decent goal that put us on the back foot.
"We tried to reorganise and then in the second half when we were attacking they have a counter-attack and suddenly it's in our net again, but they were worthy winners. It wasn't a case of giving them too much respect.
"Steve Jones and a few of the others were not at the races and you can't come to places like this and perform well if that's the case."
