Chamakh commits to Bordeaux

Premier League target Marouane Chamakh has decided to stay with French club Bordeaux for the rest of the season. Chamakh attracted interest from a host of European clubs, with Arsenal and West Ham the main front-runners. However the French-born Morocco international rejected a move to the Hammers and Arsene Wenger also cooled the Gunners' bid to land the 25-year-old. "Marouane's decision has matched my logic. The situation is much clearer for the player now," Bordeaux boss Laurent Blanc told French newspaper L'Equipe. "He wanted to join a big club, but do you know who the biggest club is? Bordeaux! So he is staying. That is just perfect." However problems could arise in the summer when Chamakh's contract runs out and he could leave the club on a free. But chairman Jean-Louis Triaud is keen to stop that from happening and would be prepared to wait until next year before offering the striker a three or four-year deal with an inviting wage packet. "We can wait until May 15 if he wants, that is no trouble," Triaud added.
