Harry hails deadly Defoe

// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Harry Redknapp believes Jermain Defoe can win the Premier League Golden Boot and become an England regular. The Tottenham boss has been impressed by the diminutive striker's explosive start to the 2009/10 campaign and is tipping him for big things in the months ahead. After shaking off a niggling foot problem at the turn of the year, Defoe has been in blistering form in front of goal.He has begun the new season with two goals in an England shirt against Holland and followed that up with a hat-trick for Spurs against Hull City in midweek.Redknapp feels the 26-year-old is now at the top of his game and insists he is capable of becoming one of the most fearsome frontmen in Europe.Lethal"At the start of the season I tipped him to be an outsider for the top scorer, he is capable of scoring 20-odd goals and it's about time he did," Redknapp said. "With (Cristiano) Ronaldo gone he can be pushing to be the top scorer."He's up there with the best in the Premier League when he is playing like he is now. He's so sharp - he's lethal."Redknapp also feels that Defoe could be an important weapon in Fabio Capello's arsenal when England head to the 2010 World Cup.He accepts that there are plenty of other hopefuls pushing for a starting berth with the national side, including Tottenham new boy Peter Crouch, but he feels Defoe has the ability to have a major impact in South Africa next summer.Opportunity"We've got four top strikers," Redknapp said. "It's up to the England manager, and it's a long way until the World Cup, but Jermain is the man in form at the moment."He's got to play well because Peter Crouch is waiting to get in. He is a player England need badly for the World Cup."It's difficult when you have top players like Peter and Roman Pavlyuchenko."They are not used to not playing and I understand that. They will play. It is a long season and at times we may change and play three forwards. They give me options."
