The 18-year-old produced two fantastic long-range strikes as Everton cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Czech side.Rodwell became the Toffees' youngest scorer in European competition with his first goal on Thursday night.Despite being proud of making history at Goodison Park, the midfielder insists that setting up a safe passage into the next round was his primary aim."It's brilliant to break records and be in the history books but the most important thing was getting the win," Rodwell told the Liverpool Echo.Confident"Once the first goal went in, we all lifted our games and you could see the confidence coming through in our passing."Rodwell made his first Premier League start against Blackburn in August of last year and scored his first Everton goal against Aston Villa in the FA Cup fifth round. However, he believes his performance against Sigma outweighs anything else he has achieved in his career so far."This was a massively important game for us, one that we had to win to stay in the competition, so to score and make a big contribution makes it the best night of my career," he added."But we have got to keep moving forward. We might have a good lead but the tie isn't over. We've got a 4-0 lead and we've got to keep it."WinDavid Moyes' side suffered a humiliating defeat to Arsenal on the first day of the season, a result Rodwell was glad the team were able to put behind them.He said: "After the Arsenal game we were all desperate to get a win, so to do it in that manner was very pleasing."It really hurt what happened last weekend. All the team, all the squad - we were all affected by it. But we stuck together and we got back on track."I couldn't get that Arsenal result out of my mind and really everybody has been thinking about it all week. That's why it was so important to get this result."We've worked hard in training to try and get it out of our heads but there is no getting away from it. It was a terrible result, a terrible performance and we had to put that right."
