McCall keen to end Gers hoodoo

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall is determined to see his side chalk up their first win over Rangers since Boxing Day 2002. McCall has led Motherwell to the Scottish Cup final and now to the top of the SPL since taking over at the turn of the year. But his record against his former club has been bitterly disappointing, having suffered a 6-0 loss at Ibrox and a 5-0 home defeat.Motherwell did play well against Rangers in the League Cup semi-final in January before going down 2-1, so McCall knows his team are capable of testing the champions on Sunday. And, having not conceded a goal in four SPL games, Motherwell have a right to be quietly confident ahead of the Fir Park clash.McCall said: "Looking at the three games, there was the CIS semi-final when we were more than a match. It could and should have gone to extra-time, it was a very even game."We went to Ibrox with a depleted defence and I take responsibility because I tried to play a back three at the last minute without really working on it, because of all the injuries we had."We got a doing there and weren't at it, having said that they scored three goals in the last 12 minutes, which put a bad slant on the scoreline."Then here we were equal and (Allan) McGregor's had two fantastic saves. We go in 1-0 down but then their three top men - Naismith, Jelavic and Davis - played at their peak."If the Old Firm's top players are on their game, it's a difficult afternoon, but you've got to stick at it and keep battling."Although it sounds daft, I think for one-and-a-half of the three games, we matched them."So we've got to make sure on Sunday it's a game where we match them and hopefully pull off a result that we've not done for many a moon."McCall remains on the lookout for at least one new addition before the transfer window closes."We're still looking for a defender that can play at right-back or in the centre because we only have Tom Hateley and young Nicky Devlin isn't quite ready," he said."We really need players that can play in a couple of positions because we can't get the number of bodies in with our budget."I'd like to bring in a wide man too that can play up front and score 20 goals for 200 quid a week!"We've watched a couple of games and we're waiting for people to come back to us. There's nothing definite but we've looked at a few centre-halves. It will be from the loan market."
