Fulham stopper eyes more glory

Mark Schwarzer has backed Fulham to maintain their status as serial overachievers as they gear up for another Premier League campaign. The plucky West London side have enjoyed a phenomenal level of success over the last three years for a club with such a modest level of expenditure. Indeed, over this period, they have garnered two top-10 finishes as well as reaching the Europa League final. Martin Jol was appointed as Fulham manager this summer and he will no doubt see it as a stain on his ability if he cannot continue their upward momentum. "The last three seasons have been excellent," Schwarzer told the Daily Mirror. "I don't think the club has ever had a better three years in a row."It's hard to improve on seventh in the Premier League, a Europa League final, and then eighth. But we believe in our own ability. We have good players at the club and it hasn't been down to luck."It's been hard work and good football, but we aim to improve and keep it going."The Australian goalkeeper admits the success of the last few years, and the groundwork they have laid over pre-season, has left them quietly confident of a good season ahead. He added: "The bar has been raised and, us as players are determined to continue raising that bar. The supporters deserve it."We are quietly confident of having a good season. We have had a decent pre-season campaign, although it has been different because we are playing in European football."It's gone to plan and we are raring to go."
