Black Cats win Tote Cup

Oumare Tounkara scored two late goals as Sunderland reserves claimed the Tote Cup with a 3-0 win over Walsall. Keith Bertschin's young second-string side triumphed at Eppleton CW in a final that was held over from the end of last season. Jordan Cook broke the deadlock in the first half, drilling a penalty into the top left-hand corner of the net after James Armstrong had been fouled. Tounkara doubled Sunderland's lead with five minutes left, latching on to John Egan's through ball before slotting home. And the striker, who spent the majority of last season on loan at Oldham Athletic, scored his second goal of the night in stoppage time to confirm victory. Sunderland: Carson, Bagnall, Liddle, Reed (Marrs 90), Egan, Laing, Mitchell, Armstrong (Elliott 78), Tounkara, Laidler (Gorrin 81), Cook.
