Smudger is cup guest

Graham Branch was the half time guest at the Watford game on Saturday and tonight another member of Stan Ternent's promotion squad of 2000, Paul Smith, will be at Turf Moor for the cup tie against Burton Albion. Smudger, as we reported a couple of weeks ago, has recently  moved back to the Burnley area but it was only last December that he finally hung up his boots after a number of years in non-league football. A product of the youth team at Burnley, he went on to play over 100 league games for the Clarets but was released in May 2001 after an injury ravaged few years. He'd, by then, had a loan spell with Oldham and then went on to play for Hartlepool, Sheffield Wednesday and Kidderminster Harriers in league football before dropping into the non-league. There he enjoyed a number of years, predominantly playing as a left-back, a position he first played in under Ternent at Burnley. He can include Alfreton, Sheffield, Quorn, Hucknall Town and Stocksbridge Park Steels amongst the clubs he played for. His last appearance at Turf Moor was in a 1-1 draw against West Brom in April 2001 and tonight he makes the half time draw for the first time.
