Thompson: It's all about timing

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson admits Rangers made a "great" final offer for David Goodwillie - but described their timing as "crazy". Rangers reportedly made seven verbal bids in total for the 22-year-old striker, who completed a move to Blackburn on Wednesday.Rangers initially offered close to £1million but their last bid came as Goodwillie met Blackburn officials - four days after the Barclays Premier League club agreed a fee with United.Thompson told BBC Scotland: "Their final bid was a great bid, there is no doubt about that."But the player was down having his medical at the time. It was absolutely crazy."Rangers owner Craig Whyte has claimed United did not want to do business with his club but Thompson insists the Blackburn offer was the better deal.Rovers reportedly agreed to pay £2million up front with another £800,000 potentially payable if performance clauses are reached. United will also get a percentage of any transfer fee if Blackburn sell Goodwillie.Thompson said: "We took what we believe was the best offer for Dundee United Football Club."I still feel that was the best deal and so does the rest of the board."I don't want to get into an argument with Rangers. I have no issues with Rangers at all."Every club had an opportunity to come in before the deal was done and we took what we believed was the best deal for our club."
