McInnes keen to keep Davidson

Derek McInnes believes Murray Davidson has all the attributes to be a top player - but hopes he is not about to lose him to Rangers. The Scottish champions had a bid for the St Johnstone midfielder rejected on Thursday, with their boss Ally McCoist saying the club had yet to decide whether to table another offer.McInnes predicts a bright future for the 23-year-old but is more than happy for Davidson to remain a Saints player for now.He said: "He possesses the attributes needed to forge a top career for himself. I'm his biggest fan so you won't get any arguments from me on that one."Selfishly, as a manager, I want to have him in my team. He is an important player for me and he has been for the last two years."When we took him from Livingston, I always felt that he was a player who would improve and that's been the case."He has got better and better. He's a fantastic boy to work and he's going to have a good career."McInnes added: "If Rangers have the same opinion of him as I have, they will come back with a bigger offer."As it stands just now, the offer has been made and rejected and we move on."Until there is another offer - if there is another offer - I'm just concentrating on working with Murray this season and he is the exact same."Who knows what will happen. A lot of clubs have shown interest in him and I'm sure that will continue."McInnes, himself, has been busy in the transfer market and has added goalkeeper Alan Mannus to his pool ahead of Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League opener at Aberdeen. The Saints boss said: "I needed another goalkeeper and Alan was one that we had known about for a while."We have been really pleased with what we've seen of him and we're glad to have him on board."It's a chance to compete with Peter Enckelman and play in the SPL."The thing that came across when speaking to Alan was how hungry and determined he was to take the opportunity. You want that throughout your squad."Looking ahead to the clash at Pittodrie, McInnes added: "It will be a tough game, they are all tough. Every time we go up there, we have to play well."We are just concentrating on putting in a performance that will give us an opportunity to win the game."Like every manager, I want to get our first win as quickly as possible. We will need to play well to get anything."
