Clarets hope for Eagles stay

Eddie Howe is determined to retain the services of key man Chris Eagles after Everton, QPR and Swansea were linked to the Burnley star. The Clarets have already allowed three players to head for the exits this summer - with Chris Iwelumo offloaded to Watford, Graham Alexander released and Clarke Carlisle loaned to Preston.Howe is reluctant to sanction any more departures and has no intention of parting with those players he considers to be integral to the club's future. That means in-demand winger Eagles will be staying at Turf Moor. The former Manchester United forward has been linked with several Premier League clubs, with Queens Park Rangers, Everton and Swansea all reported to be keen.Howe insists Eagles is going nowhere, though, and has also played down speculation suggesting Portsmouth have lodged a bid for fit-again striker Martin Paterson."There's always people circling, but there is no new news regarding any of our players," he told the Lancashire Telegraph."I've said all along I want to keep the squad together, keep our best players, and hopefully we can do that and bring in some new ones the other way."
