Inverness arrive for the opener

Does it seem like just yesterday we were stepping out at Hampden for the cup final or are those memories now a lifetime away? Whatever your take on pre-season, it is time to put on the game face once more as real football returns this Saturday. It seems rare that we start at home on a Saturday which gives this campaign a slightly old-fashioned feel which will no doubt not last long.  We were at home last opening day but lost to Hibs on a Sunday so Stuart McCall will hope we can do better now. Inverness are slightly strange opponents for this fixture since normally we would be looking to defeat a club of their size at Fir Park. However, they boast a formidable record on their travels and don’t lose often on the road.  A draw, though disappointing, may not be a disaster. ICT v 'Well But we must at least look for the win.  In Murphy, Higdon, Humphrey and Law we have players who can find the net and though the centre of our midfield is hardly overflowing with creativity, Lasley and Jennings will be confident of matching anyone in a battle. The defence improved after looking shaky against Morton and though we lost two goals to Leeds, a goalkeeping slip and some individual brilliance should not cause us to panic just yet. Inverness are missing a couple of players due to injury and are also adjusting to life after star striker Adam Rooney.  They have made a number of signings this summer and it remains to be seen how their new squad gels together. This is likely to be a tight encounter which could go either way but let’s hope we are the side smiling at full time thanks to sneaking a 2-1 win.   Remember the last time Inverness were at Fir Park?
