Brown keeping his fingers crossed

Preston boss Phil Brown remains quietly confident of securing a deal to sign defender Clarke Carlisle on loan from Burnley. Carlisle, 31, is in the final year of his contract at Turf Moor and is discussing personal terms."We have been in constant contact with Burnley with regards a number of issues," Brown told the Lancashire Evening Post."Clarke Carlisle is one of those issues and fingers crossed, we are close or further down the line in getting Clarke to come to us."He is a Leyland lad and he's said to me that all along in his career he has wanted to play for Preston North End at some stage. Clarke is a quality player who has played in the Premier League and the Championship."
