New Wigan deal for Pollitt

Wigan goalkeeper Mike Pollitt has agreed a new 12-month contract to extend his stay at the club into a seventh year. The 39-year-old's previous deal expired at the end of the season but the services of the Latics' longest-serving player have been secured for another campaign as back-up to new permanent signing Ali Al Habsi."Mike is a terrific goalkeeper first and foremost with great experience and he continues to set standards on a daily basis that the younger players can follow," said manager Roberto Martinez."He has been patient during his time at the club but has never been anything less than totally professional and committed to the club."Pollitt was delighted to remain at the DW Stadium."It had been an on-going issue for a few weeks and now we've gladly all come to an agreement," he said."I'm 39 now, approaching my seventh season at the club and although I am keen to develop as a coach at some stage right now I'm focused on the playing aspect of the game because I feel I've still got plenty to offer to the team given the opportunity."
