Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will fine David Bentley for drink driving incident

Bentley made a contrite apology on the Tottenham's website, admitting that it had been a "wake up call' and Redknapp warned that the player must learn from his indiscretion. Redknapp said: 'There will be internal action. I'm very anti-drinking and I'm very anti-drinking and driving. There is no place for it and he was very lucky that no one was injured."  Related ArticlesJol surprised by Defoe impactBecks: no Premier League returnSpurs' Bentley charged with drink-drivingTottenham v Liverpool match previewSpurs to move for MosesDefoe sues over 'wrongful' arrestHe confirmed that he had already spoken to Bentley, adding: 'David Bentley is a good lad but he made a mistake. 'I spoke to him this morning, he realises he's made a mistake and he'll pay for it. The message is simple: don't drink and drive, take a taxi.' Bentley trained with Spurs' first team squad ahead of Sunday's opening Premier League game against Liverpool but the incident has put the player out of favour at White Hart Lane: 'He's really low after what he's done,' added Redknapp. 'You can't make many more mistakes like that. The former Blackburn midfielder is unlikely to feature against Liverpool but there should be a debut for former Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong. Redknapp added: 'He's a young player with a fantastic future ahead of him. He's quick, comfortable with the ball and good in the air.' This is Redknapp's first season start with Tottenham and, at the age of 62, he remains full of excitement. He said: 'It's the same as ever. I'm looking forward to it. We have a good squad and we've had some hard preparation. Liverpool is a tough start, they'll be there challenging the best again but we are hoping we get a good start.' Spurs are without Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson and Gareth Bale, and are to test Jermaine Jenas.
