Cherries: Posh chief Fry says Pearce bid has been accepted

CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell has, in the past few minutes, told the Echo that Peterborough United's bid for Jason Pearce has NOT been accepted. Mitchell was responding after Posh director of football Barry Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph that the club's offer for Pearce had been agreed with the Dean Court board. Fry told the paper: "Bournemouth have accepted our offer for Pearce and I'm waiting to talk to the player." But Mitchell, while confirming an offer had been received, said the board and Pearce were still considering their options regarding any potential move. Mitchell, when asked about the nature of the offer, would not be drawn on the figures involved, but added that he still hoped Pearce would remain at Dean Court. Pearce, it is understood, has no gone on holiday - meaning any deal is unlikely to be done until his return. Echo sources in the East Midlands last night claimed an agreement between the Championship new boys and Cherries had been reached, with Pearce set to discuss personal terms. Mitchell, meanwhile, said no bid had been received from Charlton for Rhoys Wiggins, despite reports this morning claiming the club had turned down a £300,000 offer for the full-back from the Londoners. More on this story later.
