Michael Mancienne plots Europe mission after signing for Hamburg

ShareMichael Mancienne wants to help Hamburg back into Europe after signing a four-year deal with the German side on Tuesday night.The 23-year-old defender moves to the Imtech Arena after a long association with Chelsea, although he is better known for this three loan spells with Wolves.He made just six senior appearances for the Blues and will move to the Bundesliga when he returns from England duty at this year`s Under-21 European Championships. It`s a big challenge for me to be able to play for this club.'It would be great if I could play a part in helping Hamburg get back into Europe.'Mancienne joined Chelsea as a schoolboy but twice went to QPR before three stints with Wolves, who he spent the best part of three years with.He only made 17 appearances for Mick McCarthy's side in their recent succesful battle against the drop, though, and has now opted to head to Hamburg where he will be reunited with Hamburg`s sporting director Frank Arnesen.The Dane was technical director during some of Mancienne's time at Chelsea, and he said: 'I know Michael from Chelsea and have followed his development for years.
