Colchester boss John Ward is confident of keeping Ian Henderson at the club.
The striker has scored 10 goals for the Us this season, including both both strikes in Saturday's 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers.
The 26-year-old Norwich youth academy product is close to signing a new deal.
Ward told the Daily Gazette: "Ian has been pretty clinical in front of goal and he enjoys the role he's got.
"I'm hoping his contract is close to being signed; I want to keep Ian and he knows that.
"His two goals strengthen his case a little bit, which he'll be pleased about."
