Boss hails Caley squad

Terry Butcher was happy to have been able to call upon such a strong substitutes bench during Inverness` 1-0 win over St Mirren. A straight red card for midfielder Russell Duncan following an altercation with Lee Mair after 70 minutes appeared to hand the initiative to Saints, but substitute Adam Rooney scored for the hosts five minutes from time. The victory ensured Caley Thistle will finish the season in seventh place in the SPL and Butcher believes a strong bench helped turn the game in his side's favour. "We were very flat up until we brought on Adam Rooney, Nick Ross and Lee Cox," he said. "However, I knew it would be like that because we went to the peak when beating Celtic in midweek and you cannot get much higher than that. "I wanted to make changes to give these lads a bit of a rest that had put in such a shift, but the guys on the bench were itching to come on and make a difference. "It's lovely that we've now guaranteed seventh position and the club has certainly come a long way in two years. We're disappointed not to have got into the top six, but we're on 47 points with two games to go, so we're looking to get to 53."
