Sulley Muntari move to Sunderland in doubt

Sulley Muntari's agent claims Sunderland will not attempt to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis in the summer for financial reasons - but fellow Ghanian John Mensah is set to stay at the Stadium of Light.Muntari has been a huge disappointment since joining the Black Cats on loan from Inter Milan in the January transfer window. On his way? Muntari's move to Sunderland has hit a snag over the feeIt is unlikely boss Steve Bruce would have pursued the Ghana international anyway given his contribution during Sunderland's alarming slump since Christmas with Muntari showing little of the form which prompted a move to the Nerazzurri. But his agent, Fabien Piveteau, believes Muntari's wages would be the major stumbling block.Piveteau told the Journal: 'There is no chance at Sunderland for Sulley. They have decided he is too expensive for Sunderland.' Staying put: Mensah (right) is set to remain a Black Cats playerPiveteau who also represents Mensah, believes the central defender will still be a Black Cats player next season. He added: 'For John there is a good chance. The situation with him is that if he played 25 games he would definitely sign for Sunderland but he has only played 18 at the moment.'He has not played all of the games but it has been a different type of injury this season for John.'At the moment I think the results are the priority, but the coaches will talk with him soon about next season.'Mensah is currently in his second loan spell at Sunderland from Lyon but his season has again been ruined by injury.  Sunderland boss Bruce: 'We need to make seven signings in the summer'Sunderland make a move for out-of-contract Blackpool midfielder VaughanSunderland ponder making a move for Birmingham winger LarssonAll the latest Sunderland news, features and opinion  Explore more:People: Steve Bruce Places: Lyon, Ghana
