Cherries: Molesley targets return for run-in

MARK Molesley is desperate to put himself in the first-team frame by handing Cherries a timely fitness boost this afternoon. The tenacious midfielder is in line to make his return from an ankle injury in today's behind- closed-doors friendly against the Glenn Hoddle Academy. Molesley had just returned from 17 months on the sidelines with a persistent foot problem when his progress was cruelly halted by a fresh setback during Cherries' reserve clash against Swindon Town last month. It was initially thought the former non-league star would be ruled out for the remainder of the season after turning his right ankle, but the problem was not as bad as first feared. And having gone through a rehabilitation programme during the past fortnight, Molesley is bidding to throw his weight behind Cherries' battle for a League One play-off place. He is aiming to put himself in contention for a return to Lee Bradbury's senior squad by getting valuable game-time under his belt against the Glenn Hoddle Academy. Molesley told the Echo: I would like to play more than a half and push to play for as long as I can to try to show the gaffer I am ready. The more time, the better. He wants everyone busting a gut to try to get out on the pitch for the cause. I don't think there are too many people more determined to get out there than me. Hopefully, my play will reflect that. Molesley added: I am still working so hard to try to get back and play a part this season. Hopefully, the season is going to go on a little bit longer so, hopefully, there will be a few more games to try to fight to get back for. If I have a run-out today and all goes well, then hopefully I will be there for selection. I have had my fair share of setbacks but I'm sure it is going to come good in the end and my hard work will pay off. Cherries boss Bradbury said: We don't want to take two steps forward and one back with Mark, so we have got to manage him in the right way. He is going to need some minutes before he gets back into the squad and that is what the game has been put on for. Professionals including Stephen Purches, Joe Partington and Harry Arter are also set to feature alongside some of Cherries' trainees. Defender Mathieu Baudry could play, depending on his progress from a groin injury. Bradbury is set to run the rule over trialists including Jordace Holder-Spooner, who is in the Saints academy.
